Your online business has really taken off and your client list is growing by the day, so how do you still provide that friendly, intimate relationship with your customers while catering for your ever-expanding clientele?

The answer is simple. It’s just three little words – Customer Relationship Management. Well, I say simple, but I don’t really mean that. You see there are so many CRM systems on the market and they all do different things – and of course some are better than others.

So let me explain a little about the main names in the game.

Search through the internet and you’ll be met with all sorts like Aweber, Mailchimp and ActiveCampaign being some of the most mentioned. Are they all fundamentally the same? Well, no – and here’s my own opinion as to what’s best and why.

MailChimp is great if you want flexibility with its very responsive interface. It’s really easy and quick if you need to send out a simple email to your customers, but its power features leave a lot to be desired.

Many bosses swear by Aweber, and it is a brilliant system. However, it does have its limits. If you’re a small company that wants an email management system it works brilliantly. But grow your number of clients and separate them into different lists and you’ll hit problems. You’ll soon leave it behind.

Firstly it doesn’t recognise that different clients might be on one or more lists, so the client could be bombarded with emails from your company instead of just one email. And what’s more it counts each person on the list as one client. For instance you might have hundreds of clients but 10 of them are on five of your separate lists, but Aweber will count this and charge you for sending mail out to 50 clients when it has only reached 10 people.

ActiveCampaign is very cost effective, and less expensive than many of its competitors. Its strength lies is in its ability to work with other platforms offering marketing automation such as Infusionsoft and Hubspot.

Its free plan offers a generous 2,500 contact limit as opposed to MailChimp’s 2,000. ActiveCampaign includes auto-responder functionality on its free plans. MailChimp requires you to upgrade to a paid account for that.

While MailChimp’s support options are extremely well regarded, it does not include phone support. ActiveCampaign offers phone support Monday to Friday as well as free personalised training via phone and screen-sharing.

ActiveCampaign is easy to use, it enables you to customise your lists and you can have an unlimited number of lists for different sales funnels.

It automatically detects the contact’s timezone and location through their IP Address when they opt-in, open an email or click a link. And if that contact has a profile photo attached to it from social media it will add the photo automatically to the contact record and it will create unlimited custom fields to store additional information about your contact.

Whichever you choose you’re likely to have a positive experience, it really just depends on what your needs are. But for me it’s ActiveCampaign that has the edge over its competitors.
